BUILT AROUND LEGAL WORK

IT support for law firms

Technology that fits the way a legal practice works, with one team responsible for support, security, communications and recovery.

You shouldn't have to explain your own industry to your IT provider

Most providers treat a law firm like any other office of the same size. Same setup, same advice, same assumptions. It works until the day it doesn’t.

Firms carry things most businesses rarely think about. Client confidentiality applies everywhere, including the file server, mailbox and personal devices used for work. Trust accounts come with strict record keeping and a need to act when something looks wrong. Files may need to remain available for years. Someone may ask for one specific record, and the firm must be able to find it.

We have seen this shape before. It changes how the technology underneath should be built and maintained.

WHERE IT SHOWS UP IN PRACTICE

The same incident.
Different consequences.

01

Access to matters

Who can see which matters, what happens when someone changes teams, and how quickly access disappears when they leave. In many businesses that is tidy housekeeping. In a firm it is a confidentiality question.

02

Finding one record

Having records and being able to produce one are different things. Plenty of firms have backups. Far fewer have tested whether they could retrieve one specified document from several years ago without restoring an entire environment to find it.

03

Payment instructions

Firms move client money and regularly confirm details by email, which makes intercepted correspondence with substituted bank details a credible threat. The defence is partly technical and partly how the firm communicates with clients. Both sides need to work together.

04

Deadlines that do not move

Court dates, settlements and limitation periods do not move because a system is unavailable. That changes what recovered needs to mean. Email coming back is not enough if the matter files, documents, phones or people needed to act are still unavailable.

HOW WE WORK WITH LAW FIRMS

One team stays with the technology.

Supportdesk takes responsibility for the technology and stays with the issue. Managed IT Services covers daily support and maintenance. Microsoft 365 covers email, collaboration and access. Cyber Security & Compliance strengthens accounts and devices. Backup & Disaster Recovery is tested rather than assumed, while Business Internet & Networks keeps the underlying connections in view.

Infrastructure, communications and security stay with one Supportdesk team rather than being handed across several support providers. We can act as your IT department or work alongside your internal team.

Our responsibility

We are comfortable working with the specific requirements your firm and advisers set. We will not tell you what your professional or legal obligations are. Our responsibility is making sure the systems underneath do not make those obligations harder to meet.

WORTH A CONVERSATION

Confidence in what sits underneath the firm.

If your setup works, keep it. If your provider needs the legal context explained twice, or you are not confident a specific record could be recovered when requested, it is worth discussing what sits underneath the firm.
